Santa at the Showcase!

Christmas came early in Georgetown this year as the 2017 RiseUp Tournament Series Holiday Showcase was a jolly ol time for all! Teams as far north as Waco, as far south as San Antonio and every city in between was represented at the most prestigious Winter event in Central Texas! The San Antonio Lady Hoops 5th, 6th and 7th Grade girls drove over 75 miles north on IH-35 and stole the show sweeping all three girls divisions as they dominated the competition. Coach Antonio Holmes really has his programming rolling as his top 5th and 7th grade group are two of the top teams in the State.

On the Boys side in the 4th/5th Grade division the Round Rock Rim Rockers were in a class of their own as they dominated the tournament with their physical inside play. Their do it all big man was a force both inside and out as he proved to be unstoppable. There was no team that had an answer for him all afternoon. In the 5th grade division, the Cedar Park Celtics faced a strong, disciplined Centex Attack group led by Coach Carmelo Lee in the championship. This was a very close game as both teams went back and forth but Coach Melo and the Centex Attack proved to be a little too much for the Celtics as they squeezed out a 5 point win to take home the chip. In the 6th Grade Gold Division two of Central Texas well known programs faced off, Coach Kerwin and his gritty Life Prep Elite boys and Coach Adrian with his top Texas Warrior Elite Group. Although, they had a good strong run to the finals, Life Prep Elite was no match for the Warriors as this squad looks polished in all areas of the game. They execute at a very high level both offensively and defensively, they can handle pressure well and they can run with the best of them. I look for great things out of this group in 2018. Kuddos to coach Adrian for putting together this star studded group of big time future prospects. In the 6th grade boys silver division the Los Lobos take down the Cedar Park Rangers 50-35. It what was a much closer game than the score would indicate. The Rangers made it to the final by winning a nail biter in a gritty win against the Havoc earlier that day. Congrats to the Lobos for a strong performance. In the Bronze division the Texas Warriors Elite Black team was in a league of their own and definitely outclassed the competition. This team is better than advertised and will surprisingly win some games against some top ranked 6th grade teams in the future. In the 7th grade Boys Division the ATX Knights faced off against the Freddy's Ballers out of Waco, TX. The Ballers cruised to the finals with their first two wins being 20 points victories. The knights on the other hand had a much tougher road as they won a close game against the tough Texas Warriors team. In the championship game it went back and forth as both teams made their runs but in the end the Knights experience proved to be the x factor as they pulled out a 7 point win in the chip against the Ballers. Finally, in the 8th Grade division, in proved to be the most balanced division in the tournament in pool play with all the pools going to a tie breaker, the Waco Texans met up with the CTX Heat team led by Coach Johnny Bell. This game was a no contest as the Waco Texans pressured the Heat and turned them over most of the game. The Waco Texans won big in the finals claiming their first holiday showcase championship in a big way.

As the lights went down on the holiday showcase, 55 teams showed up but only 10 left as champions. What a weekend it was and what a great event! Thank you to all of the teams who made this event possible. We look forward to seeing you at the TipOff Classic at the end of March!
